UK women would save £2,756 switching out single use sanitary products for reusable period pants

LovetheSales.com’s exclusive data reveals UK women, who buy single-use sanitary products, would save £2,756 on average over their lifetime, when switching to a reusable sanitary solution like period pants.

UK women currently spend up to £5,000 in a lifetime - on single-use menstrual products. (Study of 2,000 UK women aged 18-55, conducted in 2019.)

The LovetheSales.com retail data team calculated that the average UK woman buying 3 washable period pants a year would save an astonishing £2,756.

That is a huge saving of 56% on sanitary products over a woman’s lifetime!

The switch from single use sanitary products to reusable menstrualwear would also drastically reduce the cost to the environment.

Single use panty liners, pads and tampons account for more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year in the UK. Women who make the reusable switch would reduce their ‘sanitary waste’ footprint by 99.4% each year. Saving 198,911 tonnes of landfill waste that takes centuries to biodegrade.

Reviewing the new data, TV’s Dr Sara Kayat, commented:

“Single-use sanitary products can be an ongoing financial burden for women and are damaging to the environment. It's really encouraging to see this money saving data, change in consumer behaviour and major retailers supporting this with new product lines that encourage sustainability. Women also should find it reassuring that these reusable alternatives are just as healthy and safe as disposables.“
