Top 10 Camp Met Gala Outfits According to Instagram

Top 10 Camp Met Gala Outfits According to Instagram

By Liam Solomon. Wednesday 8th May, 2019.

It was to be a night of high camp, surpassing even last year’s theatricality – and the stars didn’t disappoint as they lit up the red carpet at the Met Gala 2019.

In the case of Katy Perry, this was quite literally true, as she embellished her amazing creation with chandeliers (yes, plural).

The boys went big on the glamour, as befits the Camp theme, there was glittering and glimmering aplenty, and Serena Williams wore a creation resembling a cheese and ham omelette.

But who did Instagram deem the most glamorous? Here are the Top 10...

1. Kylie Jenner

Top of the Instagram pops this year was Kylie Jenner, who looked stunning in a top-to-toe purple feathered showgirl-style outfit, with a daringly low neckline and semi-sheer body teamed with over-the-top fluffy arms.

The Versace creation was set off perfectly with the colour-coordinated hair. Over 8 million likes showed that Kylie’s fans appreciated how fully she committed to this year’s Camp theme.

2. Kim Kardashian

Jenner’s half-sister Kim Kardashian graced the red (actually pink) carpet in a suitably fantastic creation that took 8 months to make.

Thierry Mugler came out of retirement to make Kim’s eye-popping latex gown, which was finely decorated with beads to resemble dripping water.

Complete with a corset, giving her an improbably tiny cinched-in waist, we imagine Kim had to skip the cocktail-hour canapes. Wet-look hair rounded off the incredible ensemble.

3. Cardi B

Cardi B’s dramatic oxblood gown incorporated a delicately-beaded headdress and a stunning, sweeping train that didn’t so much dominate as entirely cover the pink carpet and iconic Met staircase.

It took four strong-looking men to arrange and move the rapper’s feathered train, and the Thom Browne gown was elegantly form-fitting.

Every one of the 3000 hours and 350 people it took to make the gown seemed to have been put to good use with this stunning work of art.

4. Kendall Jenner

Kendall came to the Gala matching with her younger sister Kylie, as they both wore mermaid inspired gowns by Versace.

The TV star turned heads with big orange feathers and slicked back hair that we think completely nailed this year's theme.

5. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra’s extravagant caged Dior Couture gown, with its iridescent rainbow elements, was another glittering triumph.

Coming in at a mere 1500 hours from first stitch to the finished ensemble, the skirt and cape, complete with hand-cut feathers, fit the Camp: Notes on Fashion theme perfectly.

6. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga took the outfit-as-performance theme even further, with a billowing pink creation that involved shedding layers as she made her grand entrance.

Proceeding through an elegant black, and then a form-fitting fuchsia gown, before finally revealing her fourth outfit, a sparkly bra top and hotpant outfit with matching over-the-top platform boots.

The Brandon Maxwell creation(s) outcamped them all. Well played!

7. Jennifer Lopez

J-Lo’s incredible gown, festooned with Swarovski crystals and beaded elements, was another labour of love (50 working days’ worth, in this case).

The Versace dress was intricate yet elegant, and tinged with sadness for J-Lo, who emotionally recounted how Luigi Massi, the tailor and designer who passed away last month, had worked on it.

The headpiece topped off the sparkling creation perfectly.

8. Deepika Padukone

The Indian film actress bedazzled the Hollywood press in a 3D printed dress by Zac Posen.

She was 1 of 5 celebs this year posed in a custom made 3D printed design. The 408 urchin-like decorations on Deepika's dress took over 160 hours to be printed.

9. Halsey

Singer Halsey looked amazing in a Prabal Gurung two-piece outfit that channelled Wonder Woman, with swathes of red satin and lots of glittering gold bangles.

What the top lacked in fabric, the sweeping train made up for.

10. Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski’s Dundas gown was arguably the most daring in terms of flesh-baring.

Shimmering, semi-sheer material was tied around her torso, just about preserving her dignity, and then cascaded down to form an elegant, sweeping skirt.

The barely-there dress was accessorised with an elaborate headpiece featuring beads and wings.

The Met Gala's Most Worn Designers

As the extravagant event becomes more of a spectacle for fashionista's, we analyse the designers behind the dress to find out which luxury label was the most worn at Monday's Gala.

The Top 10 fashion designers whose creations featured the most in this year's Met Gala with the world's favourite A-Listers are:

1. Louis Vuitton - worn by 12 A-Lister's

From Emma Stone’s shiny jumpsuit, through to Riley Keough’s schoolgirl lace creation, to Chloe Moretz’s sparkling, plunging mini-dress, and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ colour-blocking, geometric, matchy-matchy ensemble, Louis Vuitton turned up the sparkles and the bright colours for this year’s Camp event.

2. Versace - worn by 11 A-Lister's

Versace is a real favourite for the top celebs’ Met Gala outfits (it's the most worn designer over the last half decade at The Met Gala), and this year was no exception. From J-Lo to Lupita Nyong’o, to Kylie and Kendall Jenner’s co-ordinated stunning gowns, to Serena William’s more controversial attire, this fashion house grabbed the lion’s share of the attention.

3. Gucci - worn by 11 A-Lister's

Gucci was another big hitter at this year’s NYC event, spearheaded by Harry Styles, who flew the flag for the male attendees with an amazing outfit, with a sheer top half, high waisted trousers and a block heel.

4. Moschino - worn by 8 A-Lister's

Moschino was represented by Katy Perry’s all-out chandelier dress, which brilliantly encapsulated the high camp theme, and Kacey Musgrave’s Barbie inspired look. What could be camper than Barbie?

5. Saint Laurent - worn by 8 A-Lister's

The Paris fashion house dressed Miley Cyrus this year in a fantastic sparkling, angular mini-dress and sky-high, theatrical, chunky heels.

6. Chanel - worn by 6 A-Lister's

The home of recently-deceased Karl Lagerfeld was represented by none other than Anna Wintour herself, who paid the designer a beautiful tribute in her many-feathered creation. Lagerfeld had been personally involved in the design and manufacture of Wintour’s gown.

7. Michael Kors - worn by 5 A-Lister's

The American designer was able to boast two of the most fabulous outfits of the evening, with both Gigi Hadid and Emily Blunt wearing his designs. The former sported a shimmering jumpsuit and feathered ensemble, and the British actress Blunt looked amazing in a gold-leaf-look, floor-sweeping number.

8. Prada - worn by 5 A-Lister's

Prada covered both ends of the glamour spectrum this year. Yara Shahidi stunned in an embellished baby-blue sparkling bodysuit and black feathered cape, embracing the drama of the theme. Frank Ocean, on the other hand, courted some controversy for his “boring” all-black Prada hoody choice.

9. Valentino - worn by 5 A-Lister's

Valentino dressed Joan Collins in an amazing layer-cake style white gown covered in beading and feathers. The head-turning outfit reminded carpet-watchers of none other than…Joan Collins in Dynasty. True camp indeed!

10. Dundas - worn by 5 A-Lister's

Dundas was another fashion house to turn up the sparkle – as well as the creations worn by Emily Ratajkowski and Ciara, Poppy Delevigne donned a Liberace-inspired shimmering coat over her otherwise-understated black trouser suit.
