When was Gym King founded?
Gym King was founded in 2015, but is already making waves in leisure and sportswear. It is aimed at a young, fashion-conscious market. Their tees, leggings, sweatshirts and jogging bottoms are fresh, modern and form-fitting. Good quality fabrics with breathable cotton mean their pieces are ideal for the gym. However, it's designed for being out and about, rather than just working out.
Who created Gym King?
Gym King is the brainchild of former personal trainer James Parker. An entrepreneur from Yorkshire who, although still in his 20s, has a number of years of successful business behind him. He is the owner and chief executive of the brand. He describes it as “aspirational” and developed it in response to the personal fitness boom. He aims to fill a niche for people looking for activewear that can also be worn out socially. Distinctive details, and the prominent Gym King logo, helped push the brand’s turnover to £16 million in 2018.
What are the most popular Gym King products?
As you’d expect from athleisure, the most popular items are track suits, leggings and tees. Other items that can make the transition from lifting weights to off-duty relaxation are also top of the list. Prices are mid-range. Slim-fitting tracksuits go for around £60, and good quality leggings are around £25. Of course, shopping their sale will help cut the cost.
Combat sports are a clear source of inspiration, as well as a large part of their target market. The GK Fight Division brands itself as a community and sells aimed at boxers, such as sleeveless hoodies. In this range, the logo appears in large, gold format set against black. Gym King’s range of tees are eye-catching and clearly influenced by street wear trends.
They also have swimwear ranges for men and women. The men’s range consists predominantly of close-fitting swim shorts. However, the women’s range is more for sunbathing than serious aquatic accomplishments. It includes Baywatch-inspired one-pieces and bikinis with fishnet panels. All feature the GK logo prominently.
Does Gym King have a kid’s range?
Image-conscious youngsters are likely to be fans of this youth-oriented brand, but there’s no children’s range. However, older children and teens might well be able to wear the smaller adult sizes. Gym King have plenty of items in women’s size 6 or 8, and men’s XS. This means younger fans may be able to wear the coveted items.
Which celebrities wear Gym King?
Gym King’s marketing strategy is heavily reliant on social media and celebrity endorsements. The two most prominent brand ambassadors are Conor McGregor and Anthony Joshua. They greatly enhance the brand’s appeal to a target market of young, male sports fans. The company’s CEO is heavily involved with McGregor’s brand, The Mac Life. Gym King has a strong presence on Instagram, with pictures of their outfits bearing the hashtag #GKLifestyle. The brand pitches itself at those who actively participate in sports.
Are Gym King and King’s Will Dream the same company?
There is some confusion as to whether athleisure label Kings Will Dream is part of the Gym King empire. In fact, Gym King is a standalone brand. Kings Will Dream is part of sportswear company Footasylum, which was recently acquired by JD Sports. Still, the two brands are clearly operating in the same market. They serve the demand for on-trend athleisure for men at reasonable prices.
